20+ Puzzle Gift Ideas for the Puzzler In Your Life
In 2018, Karen Kavett started her very own puzzle YouTube channel and I was sold on Jigsaw puzzles ever since then. I now have well over 80 puzzles in my puzzle collection. My collection features a wide variety of brands from Ravensburger, Eeboo, Piecework, White Mountain, Wentworth, Springbok, Blue Kazoo, and a bunch more random puzzles I’ve collected along the way.
I’ve also been so fond of puzzles due to my attention to detail and my recognition of color differences. It must be the designer in me!
I’ve tested A LOT of puzzles these past few years. Here is a list of amazing puzzle gift ideas that would be great for beginners and advanced puzzlers!
Front Page Puzzle New York Times
$60–$75
The New York Times has published more than 58,000 front pages since 1851! Size options include 500 pieces or 1000 pieces. You can pick any date all the way back to 1851! Maybe pick a date based on someone’s birthday, anniversary, special occasion, or literally anything at all. These puzzles would be perfect for writers and typography lovers. I would recommend finding a date that includes some images so that it’s not all text on the puzzle.
Puzzle in Puzzle | Areaware
$25
Areaware has an assortment of gradient puzzles, pattern puzzles, and a series of mini-puzzles. Their new puzzles are known as a puzzle within a puzzle with a custom puzzle shape that includes puzzle cutouts. The photography is by KangHee Kim with various photos taken in New York City and around the U.S. It is a really unique puzzle(s) that can be completed separately or together!
New Yorker Advent Calendar
$195
Start your countdown to Christmas with the New Yorker Advent Calendar ’21. It includes 24 individually boxed 100 piece mini puzzles. This would make such a unique gift to anyone that loves advent calendars!
Another series of puzzles you should check out from the New York Puzzle Company is the Jim Golden puzzles. Jim Golden is an award-winning photographer focusing on still-life imagery and composted collages. You can find unique images with camping equipment, cameras, and video games. These puzzles usually range from $15–$22.
Puzzle Board | Bits and Pieces
$74.99
If you find yourself actively doing large 500–1500 piece puzzles, consider getting a puzzle board to place on a table. These puzzle boards are super helpful and this one, in particular, has four trays that you can use to sort and hold puzzle pieces. You could even use the trays to complete smaller puzzles. Bits and Pieces also jigsaw puzzle spinners — check out these square and round puzzle spinners. I personally received a puzzle board for Christmas last year and I have been loving it ever since!
I’d Rather Be Puzzling | Karen Puzzles T-Shirt
$26
If you love puzzles and haven’t subscribed to Karen Puzzles on YouTube, then what are you doing?! Karen Kavett was a DIY YouTuber for a very long time and just a few years ago she created her very own puzzle YouTube channel.
Her channel is all about jigsaw puzzles — from time lapses to reviews and hacks! On DFTBA, Karen has some of her very own merch. Currently, there are 3 different t-shirts to choose from.
Karen’s puzzle channel is one of my favorite YouTube videos to watch. I’ve loved her videos of the 24,000 piece puzzle, puzzle reviews, vintage prize puzzles, puzzle challenges, and so much more! She’s definitely one of the few to inspire me to be so obsessed with puzzling!
Personalized Wentworth Wooden Puzzle
$59.50–$223
Wentworth Wooden Puzzles are hand-designed and made in Wiltshire, England. They are laser cut for accuracy from wooden boards derived from sustainable sources. These make incredible gifts and would make a fantastic family heirloom. I just purchased this new Christmas puzzle release. I’m so excited to put it together this holiday season.
Other than their main wooden puzzles, they have an option to get personalized wooden puzzles with your own photographs. The puzzles feature specially shaped ‘whimsy’ jigsaw pieces. I ordered a family life whimsies personalized puzzle for my grandparents and it was a showstopper! The puzzle arrives in a box that is made with recycled materials and no plastic is used in the packaging. The puzzle pieces are in a nice purple fabric bag and when you open it up it smells like a campfire!
Garden Party | Piecework Puzzles
$38
According to The Times, the best-dressed coffee tables are now sporting a Piecework puzzle. My husband purchased a few of these puzzles for Christmas last year and I cannot wait to order more, they are just so incredibly beautiful! Some of my favorites include Winner Winner and Buns Out. They have a variety of puzzle sizes from 70 pieces all the way to 1500 pieces.
Some of the Piecework puzzles on my wish list for Christmas this year include, Garden Party, Out of Office, Tinseltown, and Field Day.
Piecework also has a curated Spotify playlist for each puzzle. You can’t tell me that is just pure awesomeness!!
I ❤ Stickers | Le Puzz
$38
Le Puzz is a new puzzle brand I stumbled upon in the fall of this year. I completely fell in love with the box designs and the designs of the puzzles. A lot of their puzzles are inspired by vintage puzzles. The boxes even have extra games on the back, some are word searches, crossword puzzles, mazes, and more. Each of the games can be completed with a fine tip dry erase marker for clean-up and enjoyment again and again! How cool is that?! The packaging of the puzzle boxes seems to be inspired by cereal boxes.
I can’t wait to get my hands on the I ❤ Stickers puzzle and the Match Made in Heaven puzzle. They are just so unique and again make fabulous coffee table books. Their puzzles are randomly cut and the puzzle piece sizes range from 500 to 1000 pieces. Included in every box is a reusable resealable bag, and a bonus-sided fold-out poster.
The Wonderfully Whimsical Weirdo Wigsaw Wuzzle Wompany
Also, from a web designer perspective, their website is just freakin’ amazing. If you scroll down to the footer, you see their slogan, “The Wonderfully Whimsical Weirdo Wigsaw Wuzzle Wompany”. You can’t tell me that’s not the most wonderful thing you’ve read today.
Holidays On Ice | Rifle Paper Co.
$34
Rifle Paper Co. launched their puzzle series in 2020 and they released a few new holiday shaped-puzzles for the 2021 season! I received a few of these puzzles for Christmas last year and I still can’t wait to complete the Maps puzzle. I just love the illustration styles of these, they are very unique. Each Rifle Paper Co. puzzle is 500 pieces and the box design matches the puzzle design.
The COLOR Series | Blue Kazoo
$35 or $99 for the set
Blue Kazoo has some of the most beautiful color puzzles. In their COLOR series, there is a gradient puzzle, color wheel puzzle, and gradient triangles puzzle. I ordered a few of these earlier this year and can’t wait to complete them! Blue Kazoo is also known for its solid color puzzles (currently sold out) and its outer space puzzles. Piece counts range from 250 to 1000.
Artist Studio 1000 Piece Puzzle | Eeboo
$23.99
Eeboo puzzles are one of my favorite puzzles because of the super sturdy and glossy puzzle pieces. They are just so satisfying to complete the puzzles, you can literally pick the completed puzzle up without it falling apart!
I currently have over 15 Eeboo puzzles in my jigsaw puzzle collection. Some of the new puzzles I’d recommend include the Artist Studio 1000 Piece Puzzle, Alchemist’s Cabinet 1000 Piece Puzzle, and the Woodland Creatures 500 Piece Round Puzzle. The artist studio puzzle, in particular, is painted by Sharon Nullmeyer and inspired by her own studio in Woodstock, New York. Any artist or graphic designer would love the artist studio puzzle!
Breakfast Jigsaw Puzzle | Cloudberries
$21.99
Cloudberries puzzles are known for being very bold, vibrant, and aesthetically pleasing. This puzzle is “eggsactly” what you need if you love puzzles and breakfast! The boxes are designed so elegantly with a grey box and the Cloudberries branding, great as a coffee table puzzle. One tree is planted for every puzzle sold (aka very sustainable)! The puzzle includes a poster image of the puzzle too.
Cloudberries also have some great resources from a jigsaw puzzle glossary to an article on how to complete a jigsaw puzzle quickly.
Illuminated Marbles Round Puzzle | Springbok
$15.95
Springbok has been in the puzzle business since 1963! I started collecting some vintage Springbok puzzles from eBay earlier this year. I love the tricky but fun random cut puzzles. Some of their vintage round puzzles come in round boxes, I have a couple of those that I can’t wait to complete!
Springbok puzzles are still fun to this day, check out this round Marbles puzzle. They have a wide variety of themes and puzzle piece counts ranging from 36 pieces to 2000 pieces. The quality is on the cheaper side but the puzzles are definitely a great value and fun to put together. They are definitely great for families and children!
The Eve, Ana Hard | JIGGY Puzzles
$49
This is a puzzle brand I haven’t personally tried but these puzzles look amazing! Each JIGGY puzzle comes in a reusable glass jar and includes puzzle glue, a straight-edge tool to spread glue, and a print of the art. These puzzles are designed to last and even glue and frame on a wall! Recently, JIGGY puzzles released some fun holiday puzzles. The Eve, Ana Hard puzzle is an 800 piece puzzle. Ana Hard, the designer of the puzzle is from Bilbao, Spain. Their puzzle piece count ranges from 450 to 800 pieces.
JIGGY also has a puzzle club subscription! With the quarterly subscription, you can get a new 500 piece puzzle every 3 months for $29 each quarter.
Ravensburger Krypt Pink
$20.30
Ravensburger has been known to have some of the best-quality puzzles of all time. I’ve collected at least 10 Ravensburger puzzles by now. I always love clicking in the puzzle pieces because of the thick and high-quality puzzle pieces.
Ravensburger puzzles are super unique because they have an incredible piece count range. They have puzzles as small as 100 pieces and some as large as 9000 pieces OR MORE! Maybe one day I will do a puzzle that large if I have the space. The puzzle that I completed recently was the Cinque Terre Viewpoint 1500 Piece Jigsaw Puzzle, which took me at least a week to complete. It was definitely a challenging puzzle!
If you are a puzzle master like me and are up for a challenge, try one of the Ravensburger Krypt puzzles. The Krypt puzzles are hand-crafted and spiral-inspired cut resulting in a lot of oddly shaped puzzle pieces. There are a variety of solid color Krypt puzzles in colors such as pink, black, silver, and gold. I recently found out about the Ravensburger Krypt Gradient puzzle and I ordered the first one I could find on eBay since it seems they’ve only been released in Germany.
Yuu Asaka Puzzles
$34–$39
I found out about these brain-teaser puzzles from Karen Puzzles and Chris Ramsay on YouTube. Yuu Asaka has a series of puzzles that require “out-of-the-box thinking” to be solved. All of the puzzles have very unique solutions. They would be great to put out on the coffee table and watch your friends and family get confused with these difficult but satisfying puzzles!
I’ve seen the solutions to these puzzles so one of my favorites has to be the Oleo 10. The goal is to fit all 6 red circles along with the 4 black rectangle pieces into the puzzle tray. These puzzles definitely require some creative thinking.
Some other puzzle brands that I’ve found along the way are White Mountain, Better Co., Galison, and Gray Malin.
White Mountain puzzles are definitely some of the most classic jigsaw puzzles out there, I recommend this cute puzzle cats puzzle for $17.99! They have some puzzle piece counts ranging from 300 to 1000.
Better Co. offers some modern-designed puzzles and the Enchanted View puzzle for $25 is on my wishlist.
Another puzzle brand I’ve been eager to experiment with is Galison puzzles. I got the Mixtapes and Desert Flora puzzles for my birthday earlier this year. A few Galison puzzles that are on my wishlist are the Frank Lloyd Wright puzzles — most notably the Saguaro Cactus And Forms Foil Stamped ($15.99) puzzle and the Fallingwater Double-Sided ($15.99) puzzles look really fun!
Speaking of double-sided puzzles, Gray Malin, has a series of double-sided puzzles featuring their photography. The Beach Two-Sided puzzle looks a bit challenging but fun at the same time, you can get this puzzle for $25.
